2.2.3.2 . Căn cứ vào thời hạn tín dụng
 Tín dụng ngắn hạn: Loại tín dụng này có thời hạn dưới 12 tháng và được sử dụng để bù đắp thiếu hụt vốn lưu động của các doanh nghiệp và nhucầu chi tiêu ngắn hạn của cá nhân. Đối với ngân hàng thương mại tín dụng ngân hàng chiếm tỉ trọng cao nhất.

Tín dụng trung hạn chủ yếu được đầu tư để mua sắm tài sản cố định, cải tiến hoặc đổi mới thiết bị công nghệ, mở rộng sản xuất kinh doanh, xây dựng các dự án mới có quy mô nhỏ và thời gian thu hồi vốn nhanh.
