Tương truyền hai hòn đảo này thuộc một dãy núi vươn mình ra khơi, qua bào mòn của thời gian và sóng nước, thành hai hòn chơ vơ giữa biển. Cũng có ý kiến cho rằng hai hòn đảo trước đó đã thành hình, do sự lấn biển mà ngày nay đã tiến lại sát bờ thôn Nhơn Hội.
