Sputnik đưa tin, tàu ngầm lớp Varshavyanka (Kilo) thứ 5 trong số 6 chiếc thuộc dự án 636 được Hải quân Việt Nam đặt Nhà máy đóng tàu Admiralty sản xuất, đã lên đường tới cảng Cam Ranh của Việt Nam vào ngày 17/12.

Đầu tháng 7/2015, tàu ngầm thứ 4 trong dự án 636 đã tới Việt Nam.

Hợp đồng mua bán 6 tàu ngầm diesel-điện thuộc dự án 636 đã được ký kết vào năm 2009.

Ngoài việc đóng tàu ngầm tại Nhà máy Admiralty, hợp đồng còn kèm theo điều khoản đào tạo thủy thủ đoàn Việt Nam và cung cấp các trang thiết bị kỹ thuật cần thiết.
