Năm 2007, EVN cũng đã tiến hành nghiên cứu đánh giá tiềm năng gió, xác định các vùng thích hợp cho phát triển điện gió trên toàn lãnh thổ với công suất kỹ thuật 1.785 MW. Trong đó miền Trung Bộ được xem là có tiềm năng gió lớn nhất cả nước với khoảng 880 MW tập trung ở hai tỉnh Quảng Bình và Bình Định, tiếp đến vùng có tiềm năng thứ hai là miền Nam Trung Bộ với công suất khoảng 855MW, tập trung ở hai tỉnh Ninh Thuận và Bình Thuận.
