Được biết, loài cá sấu được phục hồi tại khu vực Bàu Sấu là cá sấu nước ngọt (cá sấu xiêm) chúng có thân dài và mõm dài như cái kẹp. Hàm dưới có nhiều răng dài và nhọn, đuôi cao to khỏe, chân sau có màng ở lưng dạng hình chữ nhật. Cá sấu nước ngọt có thân hình màu xám, mặt bụng nhạt hơn phần lưng.

Loài cá sấu xiêm có chiều dài trung bình từ 2,20-2,28 m. Cá sấu thường chọn thức ăn là cá, cua, chim trời các thú nhỏ như chuột. Ở Việt Nam loài này thường sống ở hồ, sông, rạch những nơi có nước lặng, nước chảy chậm. Chúng còn thích sống ở vùng đầm lầy, xa các dòng nước chảy lớn. Điều đáng nói hơn loài cá sấu này là một trong những giống bị đe dọa nhiều nhất. Các tổ chức bảo tồn thế giới đã xếp loài này vào hàng nguy cơ tuyệt chủng cao.
