Ngành du lịch Việt Nam ước tính đã thu hút được 190 đối tác đầu tư trực tiếp nước ngoài với tổng số vốn là 4.64 tỷ USD. Năm 2006, ngành này thu hút được tổng số vốn đầu tư là 609 triệu USD, cao nhất trong giai đoạn 1999 – 2006. Trong năm 2007, tổng vốn đầu tư vào du lịch và khách sạn vào gần 406 triệu USD, chiếm khoảng 1/5 tổng vốn được cấp của tất cả các ngành kinh tế (2.75 tỷ).
