Theo Cục Bảo vệ và chăm sóc trẻ em của Bộ Lao động-Thương binh và Xã hội, hàng năm, ở Việt Nam có khoảng từ 3000-4000 vụ ngược đãi, bạo hành trẻ em. 800 vụ xâm hại tình dục trẻ em với khoảng 900 em là nạn nhân. Đặc biệt nghiêm trọng là số nạn nhân mới chỉ ở độ tuổi 5-8 tuổi. Song, đó chỉ là những vụ được trình báo, còn thực tế là bao nhiêu thì chưa thống kê đầy đủ. Ở Việt Nam, trẻ em vẫn chưa bảo vệ tốt tuy rằng đời sống người dân Việt được nâng cao so với những năm trước đây.
