1.1. Đoạn sông từ Cầu Bình Phước đến Cầu Sài Gòn Đoạn sông từ Cầu Bình Phước đến Cầu Sài Gòn với chiều dài khoảng 22km, có nhiều khúc uốn, lòng sông khá hẹp với chiều rộng thay đổi từ 220-320m. Kết quả khảo sát cho thấy đoạn sông này có gần 4km đường bờ bị trượt lở với mức độ khác nhau nằm trên địa bàn các quận Thủ Đức, quận 2, quận 12 và khu vực bán đảo Thanh Đa - Bình Thạnh. Tổng hợp các vụ trượt lở trong những năm qua cho thấy hầu hết những đoạn sông bị trượt lở đều nằm trên các khúc sông cong điển hình như: - Cách cầu Bình Phước 1.5km về phía thượng lưu, một dãy thuộc “Nhà Vọng Nguyệt” của nhà hàng Thanh Cảnh dài 250m đã bị sụp xuống sông và vào sâu trong đất liền hơn 15m (Tháng 11/2000). Hiện nay, đoạn đường bờ này vẫn có nguy cơ bị trượt lở bất cứ lúc nào. - Đoạn đường bờ tại địa chỉ 58A và 277A, tổ 3, khu phố 1, phường Hiệp Bình Phước, quận Thủ Đức bị trượt lở một đoạn có chiều dài khoảng 100m và sâu vào trong bờ khoảng 15m (31/05/2001), thiệt hại về tài sản của chủ cơ sở vôi Tấn Phát (277A) ước tính khoảng 200 triệu đồng. Hiện nay, trên bờ còn một vết nứt dài khoảng 20m và khá rộng đang uy hiếp đoạn đường bờ này. - Đoạn đường bờ ngay sát cầu Bình Phước thuộc ấp Bình Phước 1, ngay khu vực nhà máy đay Indira Gandhi là đoạn bờ lõm của khúc sông cong dài khoảng 250m đang bị trượt lở với tốc độ trung bình khoảng 2.2m/năm. - Đoạn đường bờ thuộc ấp Bình Phước 3, ngay tại hai ngã ba sông Sài Gòn - rạch Cầu Cống và sông Sài Gòn - rạch Cầu Bần với chiều dài tổng cộng khoảng 200m bị trượt lở với tốc độ trung bình là 0.8 m/năm. - Đoạn đường bờ ở khu vực nhà thờ Fatima, cách cầu Bình Lợi 350m về phía thượng lưu, có chiều dài khoảng hơn 300m đã bị trượt lở cách đây 7 năm và một bờ kè được xây dựng để

bảo vệ đoạn bờ này. Nhưng hiện nay đoạn bờ này đã được xây dựng công trình bảo vệ bờ khá kiên cố với vốn đấu tư hàng trăm triệu đồng. - Đoạn đường bờ cách chân cầu Bình Triệu khoảng 80m về phía thượng lưu có chiều dài khoảng 50m cũng đang bị trượt lở với tốc độ trung bình là 0.7m/năm. - Đoạn bờ tại khu vực bán đảo Thanh Đa thuộc phường 27, 28 - quận Bình Thạnh có chiều dài tổng cộng khoảng 1km trong những năm gần đây bị trượt lở nghiêm trọng. Đây là khu vực rất đông dân cư nên nhà cửa và hàng quán mọc san sát nhau.
