Vào ngày 4/8/2010, Ông Trần Tuấn Anh, Bộ trưởng Công Thương Việt Nam đã có cuộc gặp song phương với ông Ramon Lopez, Bộ trưởng Bộ Công Thương Philippines. hai nước đã ký hiệp định song thương gia hạn thỏa thuận thương mại gạo năm 2010. Điều này cho thấy thương mại song phương giữa Việt Nam và Phillippin ngày càng đa dạng hóa về cơ cấu hàng hóa và giá trị xuất nhập khẩu. Cơ cấu xuất nhập khẩu Việt Nam-Philippines mang tính bổ sung, không cạnh tranh trực tiếp. Vì vậy trong thương mại trao đổi Việt Nam sẽ cung cấp các sản phẩm nông nghiệp và thực phẩm chế biến (gạo, càphê, hạt tiêu, bánh kẹo...). Ngược lại, Philippines sẽ cung cấp cho Việt Nam các sản phẩm thiết bị điện tử như máy tính, máy móc thiết bị... Trong nhiều năm gần đây, giá trị xuất khẩu hàng hóa của Việt Nam sang Philippineses luôn lớn hơn giá trị nhập khẩu hàng hóa có xuất xứ từ thị trường này, nên cán cân thương mại luôn ở trạng thái thặng dư nghiêng về phía Việt Nam.
