Định luật thứ không của nhiệt động lực học phát biểu rằng nếu hai vật lần lượt cân bằng nhiệt với một vật thứ ba nào đó, thì chúng cũng cân bằng nhiệt với nhau. Cân bằng nhiệt có nghĩa là khi hai vật được mang lại tiếp xúc nhau và ngăn cách nhau bởi một vách ngăn có thể xuyên nhiệt, thì sẽ có sự truyền nhiệt từ vật này sang vật kia.
