Về lịch sử thành lập của trường trung học phổ thông Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai :
• Trường Trung học Phổ thông Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai (còn được gọi là trường nữ Gia Long, trường nữ sinh Áo Tím) là một trường trung học phổ thông công lập ở Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh. Được thành lập từ năm 1913, cho đến nay trường Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai là một trong những trường phổ thông lâu đời nhất của nền giáo dục Việt Nam.
• Ngày 6/11/1913 trường được xây dựng trên khu đất rộng ở Legrand de la Lirage, Sài Gòn. Năm 1915, trường được xây dựng xong và cũng trong năm ấy trường khai giảng khóa đầu tiên. Hiệu trưởng đầu tiên của trường là bà Lagrange vợ ông Chánh Tham Biện người Pháp. Ban đầu trường chỉ có những lớp đồng ấu (Enfantin) và những lớp cao đẳng (Supérieur) của bậc sơ học. Năm 1922 trường đã khánh thành Ban nữ trung học học đường với cái tên Collège de Jeunes Filles Indigènes (Trường con gái bản xứ). Màu tím được chọn là màu áo đồng phục cho nữ sinh thời bấy giờ, tượng trưng cho đức tính đoan trang, kín đáo và khiêm nhường của thiếu nữ Việt Nam; vì thế trường còn được gọi là Trường Áo Tím. Năm 1940, trường được đổi tên là Collège Gia Long rồi Lycée Gia Long. Năm 1953, đồng phục trường đổi từ áo dài tím sang áo dài trắng với phù hiệu của trường là đóa mai vàng khâu lên trên áo và đổi tên thành Trường Nữ Trung học Gia Long. Suốt những năm sau đó, trường vẫn tiếp tục phát triển và Gia Long là một trong những trường đi đầu của phong trào học sinh-sinh viên Sài Gòn rải truyền đơn xuống đường biểu tình giành độc lập (Thời chống Mỹ). Sau sự kiện 30 tháng 4 năm 1975, trường được chính quyền mới đổi tên thành Trường Phổ thông cấp 2-3 Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai. Niên khóa 1978-1979, Trường giải thể cấp 2, thu nhận nữ sinh lẫn nam sinh, đổi tên thành Trường Trung học Phổ thông Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai tới bây giờ. Năm 2003, trường được đưa vào vào danh mục của 55 công trình đề nghị điều tra xác lập di tích kiến trúc cổ của Sài Gòn - Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh.
Về cơ sở vật chất của trường :
• Tháng năm đi qua, cùng với sự chuyển mình của ngành Giáo dục, trường Minh Khai đã không ngừng đổi mới để ngày càng xứng đáng với niềm tin yêu của mọi người. Cơ sở vật chất khang trang, khuôn viên trường sạch, xanh và đẹp đã tạo được môi trường sư phạm lý tưởng để dạy và học. Chính sự đổi mới trong công tác quản lí và phương pháp dạy học đã mang lại cho Minh Khai một diện mạo khác hẳn. Vận dụng những tiện ích của công nghệ thông tin vào giảng dạy và học tập đã trở nên quen thuộc với cả thầy và trò. Phương pháp dạy học theo dự án đã phát huy được tính tích cực và sáng tạo của học sinh. Mở rộng vòng tay thân ái, Minh Khai đã là điểm hẹn để giao lưu, học hỏi và chia sẻ kinh nghiệm với nhiều bạn bè trong và ngoài nước.

102 năm qua đi, đã có biết bao lớp học trò trưởng thành từ ngôi trường này. Trong đó không ít người đã vinh danh trên nhiều lĩnh vực, từ kinh tế, chính trị, đến văn hóa, khoa học, giáo dục như bà Nguyễn Ngọc Dung (nguyên Vụ trưởng Vụ báo chí của Bộ ngoại giao, Đại sứ đầu tiên của Việt Nam tại Liên hiệp quốc), bà Trương Mĩ Lệ (nguyên Phó ban tổ chức Thành ủy), bà Võ Thị Thắng (tổng cục trưởng Tổng cục du lịch), bà Đoàn Lê Hương (Chủ tịch Hội Chữ thập đỏ TW), bà Lê Tú Cẩm ( Phó Giám đốc Sở Văn hóa Thông tin), bà Vũ Thị Nhung (Tiến sĩ, nguyên Giám đốc Bệnh viện Hùng Vương), Lê Thị Ngọc Nga (Dũng sĩ, nay là Bác sĩ BV Nhi đồng), Phạm Uyên Nguyên (Giám đốc Cty Chứng khoán Bảo Việt, chi nhánh TP. HCM), Nguyễn Anh Nguyên (Phó tổng giám đốc Cty Unilever, Việt Nam), Ngô Mỹ Uyên ( Người mẫu, Hoa hậu quốc tế Ai Cập), Thiệu Ánh Dương ( Luật sư, Diễn viên), Sĩ Luân (Nhạc sĩ, Ca sĩ), Minh Thư, Thanh Ngọc (Ca sĩ), … và đặc biệt là những Nhà giáo ưu tú như Cô Trần Thị Tỵ, Cô Phạm Thị Thiệt, Thầy Trần Văn Khánh, Cô Nguyễn Bạch Hồng …. và còn rất nhiều giải thưởng khác mà nhà trường đạt được.

The history of establishment of the secondary school of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai:• Secondary School Nguyen Thi Minh Khai (also known as Gia Long school, Purple Shirt school) is a public secondary school in Ho Chi Minh City. Founded in 1913, to date the school Nguyen Thi Minh Khai is one of the oldest schools of education in Vietnam.• On November 6, 1913 the school was built on land in Legrand de la Lirage, Saigon. Year 1978-1979, the school can award level 2, female students and alumni, the school changed its name from high school Nguyen Thi Minh Khai to now. In 2003, the school was put on the list of 55 suggested constructions investigating ancient architectural relic of Saigon-Ho Chi Minh City. Regarding the establishment of the historical High School Nguyen Thi Minh Khai:
• Secondary School Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street (also known as Gia Long girls school, girl school Austria Purple) is a public secondary school established in Ho Chi Minh City. Established since 1913, so far the school Nguyen Thi Minh Khai is one of the oldest schools of education in Vietnam.
