Do mới đến Mỹ tôi không biết rằng tại đất nước này có những quy định về luật lao động rất cụ thể và rõ ràng, trong đó những người làm công việc như tôi chỉ phải làm vệ sinh cho 8 phòng trong một ngày làm việc, thế nhưng người Việt luôn có thói xấu bóc lột lẫn nhau dù lộ ra hay kín đáo và chủ tôi cũng không ngoại lệ cho nên một ngày tôi phải bắt buộc làm vệ sinh cho…40 cái phòng!
Mỗi buổi sáng tôi phải gỏ cửa từng phòng yêu cầu chủ nhân ra ngoài để tôi làm vệ sinh, việc đầu tiên là phải làm sạch cái nhà tắm trong đó có bồn cầu, lau chùi các miếng kính soi mặt, thay giấy đi cầu, cọ rửa cầu tiêu sau đó quét phòng và lau nhà là công đoạn kết thúc, cứ thế tôi làm từ phòng này đến phòng khác bên khu vực ngoài và bấm cửa điện để vào bên trong phòng cách ly. Tại đây có những bệnh nhân chích thuốc ngủ li bì phải thở bằng máy, những người ngồi xe lăn, những người đã lú lẫn được người nhà mang tới, họ không được phép bước ra khỏi khu vực này vì có thể họ sẽ không nhớ đường về, họ bắt buộc phải ở trong đó cho đến khi chết và họ cho tôi được thấy góc nhìn vô thường của cuộc đời mỗi con người.
