Đội đặc nhiệm EKO-Cobra (Einsatzkommando Cobra) được thành lập với nhiệm vụ chính là chống khủng bố sau khi một cuộc tấn công vào các vận động viên Israel diễn ra tại sân vận động Munich Olympics vào năm 1972. Tổ chức này bao gồm 450 thành viên được tuyển chọn từ danh sách các sĩ quan xuất sắc nhất của lực lượng cảnh sát liên bang Áo.
