Đánh giá việc thực hiện Chiến lược phát triển ngành cơ khí Việt Nam đến năm 2010, tầm nhìn đến năm 2020, trong thời gian qua, mặc dù gặp nhiều khó khăn, ngành cơ khí đã có nhiều cố gắng, nỗ lực vươn lên, tạo sự chuyển biến bước đầu ở một số lĩnh vực, như chế tạo thiết bị cơ khí thủy công, chế tạo dàn khoan dầu khí, thiết bị điện, chế tạo và cung cấp thiết bị cho các dự án xi măng, đóng tàu, các công trình thiết bị toàn bộ v.v.. Một số cơ quan nghiên cứu - thiết kế và doanh nghiệp sản xuất cơ khí đã từng bước đổi mới, nâng cao năng lực tư vấn, thiết kế, chế tạo thiết bị và công nghệ, tham gia thực hiện một số gói thầu của các dự án trọng điểm quốc gia. Giá trị sản xuất công nghiệp ngành cơ khí năm 2013 đạt khoảng 700 ngàn tỷ đồng, chiếm khoảng 20% tổng giá trị sản xuất công nghiệp toàn ngành công nghiệp; giá trị xuất khẩu năm 2013 đạt trên 13 tỷ USD, gấp gần 6 lần so với giá trị xuất khẩu năm 2006. The industrial production value of the mechanics in 2013 of about 700 thousand, accounting for about 20 percent of the total industrial production value of the industry; export value in 2013 reaches over 13 billion dollars, which is almost 6 times the value of exports in 2006.
