Mục tiêu của Nhà trường là xây dựng trường trở thành một cơ sở đào tạo và nghiên cứu khoa học đa ngành, đa lĩnh vực đạt chất lượng cao, phục vụ cho các mục tiêu kinh tế - xã hội của tỉnh Khánh Hòa và cả nước. Các trình độ đào tạo của trường bao gồm trung học, cao đẳng và đại học. Quá trình đào tạo của nhà trường luôn gắn kết giữa đào tạo và nghiên cứu khoa học, đặc biệt là nghiên cứu khoa học giáo dục.
Từ ngày thành lập đến nay, các thế hệ cán bộ, giảng viên, công nhân viên và sinh viên của trường đã phấn đấu không ngừng xây đắp nên những thành tựu to lớn cho sự nghiệp giáo dục của tỉnh Khánh Hòa và cả nước. Trong 03 năm đầu (1976 - 1978), mặc dù còn nhiều khó khăn của một địa phương mới giải phóng, nhưng trường đã cố gắng hoàn thành tốt việc đào tạo khẩn trương và kịp thời nhằm đáp ứng nhu cầu bổ sung giáo viên phổ thông cấp II cho các tỉnh Phú Khánh, Thuận Hải, Đắc Lắc.
