- Sử dụng ảnh viễn thám và GIS kết hợp điều tra thực địa xử lý phân tích đánh giá hiện trạng và biến động đất ruộng bậc thang trồng lúa nước ở các tỉnh vùng Tây Bắc.
- Nghiên cứu đánh giá công tác quản lý, sử dụng đất ruộng bậc thang vùng nghiên cứu.
- Điều tra đánh giá thực trạng sản xuất, điều tra phiếu hiệu quả sử dụng đất ruộng bậc thang trồng lúa ở vùng nghiên cứu.
- Điều tra thực địa lấy mẫu đất, phân tích các chỉ tiêu lý hóa tính của đất để đánh giá chất lượng môi trường đất ruộng bậc thang trồng lúa làm cơ sở đề xuất biện pháp sử dụng cải tạo.
- Đánh giá, xây dựng bản đồ phân hạng thích hợp đất đai khu vực nghiên cứu.
- Nghiên cứu đề xuất các giải pháp nhằm tăng cường công tác quản lý và sử dụng bền vững đất trồng lúa các tỉnh vùng Tây Bắc.
- Nghiên cứu mô hình tại tỉnh Lào Cai
