Trải qua nhiều biến động chính trị, lịch sử, ngày nay, Nhà thờ Đức Bà vẫn là công trình kiến trúc tuyệt tác của đô thị Sài Gòn. May mắn không bị phá hủy bởi chiến tranh như nhiều công trình khác, thời gian dường như cũng không thể làm phai nhòa đi sự lộng lẫy của kiến trúc đặc sắc này. Nhà thờ là một điểm nhấn trong không gian đô thị; có góc nhìn đẹp từ mọi phía. Hầu hết những nguyên vật liệu xây dựng, trang trí đều được chuyển từ Pháp sang như gạch xây, ngói, sắt thép, xi măng, kính màu trang trí và các kết cấu, phụ kiện kim khí… Cho tới bây giờ, bề mặt công trình bằng gạch trần vẫn giữ nguyên màu gạch hồng tươi, không bị bám rêu mốc. Toàn bộ thánh đường có 56 ô cửa kính màu do hãng Lorin của tỉnh Chartres (Pháp) sản xuất.
