Đây là vấn đề toàn cầu cho nên không có một nước riêng lẻ nào có thể tự giải quyết được mà cần có sự phối hợp chung thông qua một chiến lược toàn cầu.
Việt nam cũng đang đứng trước thử thách nghiêm trọng về môi trường sinh thái. Đất, rừng, nước, động vật, thực vật bị khai thác quá mức, làm cho tài nguyên quý hiếm ngày càng cạn kiệt. diện tích đất suy thoái, đồi trọc hiện nay ở nước ta đã lên tới 13 triệu ha ( 39 % diện tích), trong đó 1,2 triệu ha mất khả năng canh tác.
Trong 50 năm qua, diện tích rừng giảm 6 triệu ha, tỷ lệ che phủ còn 26%. Hiện nay tại một số khu vực công nghiệp, nồng độ bụi và khí thải độc hại đã vượt quá mức cho phép nhiều lần do việc đa số các nhà máy vẫn còn sử dụng công nghệ lạc hậu, thiết bị cũ kĩ.
Việt Nam cần rút ra bài học của những nước đã công nghiệp hóa và phải có kế hoạch đề phòng, hạn chế ô nhiễm trong thời gian tới. việc khai thác khoáng sản cần phải được tổ chức và quản lí tốt để tránh lãng phí tài nguyên và ảnh hưởng xấu đến tài nguyên môi trường.
Bảo vệ môi trường là vấn đề quan tâm chung của mọi người, mọi nhà, mọi quốc gia và cả nhân loại, với tinh thần trách nhiệm : hãy cứu lấy trái đất, cứu lấy cái nôi của chúng ta.
