Kiểm toán Nhà nước khu vực VIII là đơn vị trực thuộc Kiểm toán Nhà nư­ớc có chức năng giúp Tổng Kiểm toán Nhà nước tổ chức thực hiện nhiệm vụ kiểm toán báo cáo tài chính, kiểm toán tuân thủ, kiểm toán hoạt động trong việc quản lý, sử dụng ngân sách, tiền và tài sản nhà nước của các tỉnh, thành phố trực thuộc trung ương trên địa bàn khu vực theo sự phân công của Tổng Kiểm toán Nhà nước, cụ thể gồm:
1) Các cấp chính quyền địa phương trên địa bàn khu vực;

2) Các cơ quan, đơn vị, tổ chức của địa phương trên địa bàn khu vực có sử dụng ngân sách địa phương hoặc ngân sách trung ương uỷ quyền;

3) Các công trình, dự án đầu tư do Uỷ ban nhân dân các cấp trên địa bàn khu vực hoặc do các đơn vị thuộc Uỷ ban nhân dân các cấp trên địa bàn khu vực quản lý làm chủ đầu tư;

4) Các doanh nghiệp nhà nước do các cấp có thẩm quyền của chính quyền địa phương thành lập thuộc địa bàn khu vực;

5) Kiểm toán một số đối tượng khác do trung ương quản lý đóng trên địa bàn khu vực theo sự uỷ nhiệm của Tổng Kiểm toán Nhà nước.
