ở một số nước đặc biệt các nước phương đông vẫn còn nhiều quan niệm lạc hậu : sinh nhiều con , tư tưởng trọng nam khinh nữ , muốn sinh con trai . điều này có thể thấy rõ rệt tại việt nam , tại các vùng dân tộc thiểu số hoặc vùng nông thôn thường có tư tưởng sinh càng nhiều càng tốt và nhất thiết phải có con trai, do đó ở các vùng này gia đình nào cũng có 3 con trở lên. Ở các nước này vai trò và địa vị của người phụ nữ rất thấp và chưa được giải phóng hoàn toàn
