Các dịch vụ vận chuyển cấp cứu bằng đường không luôn là là lĩnh vực đầy tiềm năng phát triển đối với các quốc gia có nền vận tải hàng không phát triển. Tại Việt Nam, mặc dù đã xuất hiện từ lâu nhưng chỉ những năm gần đây, dịch vụ này mới thực sự là một lĩnh vực được kỳ vọng sự tăng trưởng.

Hiện nay chưa có công ty nào cung cấp dịch vụ bay này vì vậy chi phí rất cao. Ngoài mất một khoản tiền ngoại tệ cho các hãng hàng không nước ngoài, khách hàng còn chịu thiệt khi mất thời gian chờ máy bay từ các nước sang để chở khách đi, cơ hội được cấp cứu kịp thời giảm đi đáng kể. Trên cơ sở số liệu thống kê trong những năm vừa qua, thị trường này dự kiến khoảng 800-1000 giờ bay/năm.
