Những cơn mưa lớn đầu tiên tại khu vực Tây Nguyên vào tuần cuối tháng 4 đã mang đến lượng nước đủ và cải thiện đáng kể độ ẩm của đất cho cây cà phê. Tuy nhiên, lượng mưa trung bình nửa đầu tháng 4 vẫn thấp hơn so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái; và lượng mưa trong tháng 4 của hai năm 2016 và 2015 đều thấp hơn so với lượng mưa trung bình của 10 năm gần đây. Hầu hết lượng nước dự trữ tại các hồ chỉ ở mức 30% đến 50% so với công suất thiết kế. Trung bình độ ẩm tương đối thấp hơn 6,4% so với cùng kỳ của 5 năm qua.
Niên vụ 2015/16, sản lượng cà phê nước ta tăng 7% so với niên vụ 2014/15 – thời điểm thời tiết rất khô hạn. Niên vụ 2016/17, giai đoạn ra hoa và kết trái (từ tháng 1 tới nửa đầu tháng 3 năm 2016) gặp thời tiết khá tốt và thuận lợi. Một số khu vực cà phê đã ra hoa vào tháng 2 và nửa đầu tháng 3 khi lượng mưa hạn chế nhưng người nông dân đã sử dụng lượng nước dự trữ cũng như nguồn nước ngầm để tưới cho toàn bộ diện tích gieo trồng. Ước tính sản lượng niên vụ 2016/17 giảm tới 7% so với niên vụ 2015/16. Sản lượng còn có thể giảm hơn nữa (tới 15%) do hạn hán hay những cơn mưa bão do hiện tượng thời tiết La Nina gây ra.
