Ngoại ngữ không phải là một môn học theo công thức nhưng trong thực tế, khi học Ngoại ngữ, hầu hết sinh viên Việt Nam thường chú trọng vào ngữ pháp hơn là giao tiếp. Kết quả là nhiều sinh viên có thể nắm chắc ngữ pháp Tiếng anh còn hơn cả người bản ngữ nhưng khi giao tiếp thì họ lại tỏ ra lúng túng và rất kém.
