Thị trường thương mại điện tử Viêt Nam trong năm 2009 có giá trị vào khoảng 300 triệu USD. Trong khi đó, tại 9/2012 giá trị của thương mại điện tử VN đạt 456 triệu USD và với mức độ tăng trưởng trung bình, thị trường này có thể dễ dàng đạt được tới 500 triệu USD vào cuối năm 2012. Như vậy, chỉ với một năm, thương mại điện tử Việt Nam đã có mức tăng trưởng 60%. Con số này được ước tính sẽ đạt 2.5 tỷ USD vào năm 2015. (Do, 2012)

Tại tháng 2/2012, Việt Nam có hơn 30,8 triệu người sử dụng internet, chiếm 34% dân số (We Are Social Singapore, 2012b). Số lượng khách hàng, người sử dụng internet ngày càng tăng cùng với chính sách hấp dẫn của các online supermarket cho thấy rằng thương mại điện tử việt nam sẽ mở rộng nhanh chóng trong tương lai.
