1. Thế nào là than hoạt tính
Than hoạt tính (Activated Carbon – AC) là cấu trúc phân tử than được kết hợp qua xử lý để tạo thành những vật liệu có cấu trúc đặc biệt, giúp tăng diện tích bề mặt tiếp xúc của than với các phân tử hóa chất trong nước và hấp thụ một lượng lớn các tạp chất bẩn bên trong nguồn nước ô nhiễm. Than hoạt tính có thể được cấu thành từ rất nhiều thành phần chứa carbon như bột than (dạng vô định hình), tinh thể than, tàn tro, vỏ dừa hay kể cả gỗ…
2. Ưu điểm của than hoạt tính
- Than hoạt tính dạng khối (Solid Block Activated Carbon – SBAC): Là cấu trúc than tốt nhất và lọc nước hiệu quả nhất đang sử dụng rộng rãi hiện nay. Khi dòng nước chảy qua khối than hoạt tính vững chắc, các tạp chất bẩn sẽ bị giữ lại và dòng nước đi qua sạch sẽ. Khối than hoạt tính cũng bảo đảm được sự rắn chắc, độ bền sử dụng cao và tăng hiệu suất của toàn bộ hệ thống lọc.
- Than hoạt tính dạng hạt (Granular Activated Carbon – GAC): được cấu thành từ những hạt than nhỏ và bền hơn dạng bột, GAC được sử dụng rộng rãi trong hệ thống lọc nước máy hay xử lý nước gia đình. Than hoạt tính dạng bột có thể lọc mùi, xử lý nước nhiễm bẩn… nhưng hiệu quả lọc phụ thuộc khá nhiều vào tốc độ dòng nước, nếu tốc độ dòng nước quá lớn mà không có cách hãm thì hiệu quả sẽ không cao.
- Than hoạt tính dang bột (Powdered Activated Carbon – PAC): Thường được sử dụng để lọc mùi, lọc một số chất màu và cả chất béo hòa tan trong nước. Tuy nhiên do tính chất dễ bị rửa trôi và không ổn định, nên than hoạt tính dạng bột chủ yếu được sử dụng dưới dạng bổ trợ ở các hệ thống lọc nước công nghiệp lớn.
