Năm 1992, bia Heineken nổi tiếng thế giới được nhập trực tiếp từ Hà Lan vào Việt Nam. Chính sách đổi mới đã mở ra nhiều cơ hội đầu tư và giúp cho các nhãn hiệu hàng đầu thế giới đến với người tiêu dùng rộng rãi hơn.
Trong xu thế đó, năm 1994, lần đầu tiên bia Heineken được công ty Vietnam Brewery Limited (VBL) sản xuất ngay tại Việt Nam, dưới hình thức liên doanh với công ty beer Việt Nam (VBL) là liên doanh giữa Công ty Thương mại Saigon (SATRA), Công ty Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd có trụ sở tại Singapore (APB) và Heineken N.V tại Hà Lan).
