Báo cáo của Hiệp hội Lương thực Việt Nam (VFA), cho biết tính đến cuối tháng 8-2014, xuất khẩu gạo của doanh nghiệp hội viên đạt trên 4,2 triệu tấn, trị giá FOB đạt trên 1,8 tỉ đô la Mỹ, giảm lần lượt gần 9,2% về lượng và trên 8,5% về giá trị so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái.Tuy nhiên, theo ông Phạm Văn Bảy, Phó chủ tịch VFA, tính đến cuối tháng 8-2014, doanh nghiệp hội viên của họ đã xuất được 800.000 tấn gạo thơm các loại, tăng 36% so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái.Xuất khẩu gạo thơm tăng mạnh là do các doanh nghiệp đẩy mạnh khai thác những thị trường có nhu cầu cao về chủng loại gạo này như Trung Quốc, Philippines, Hồng Kông, và Mỹ.
