Không chỉ tự chẩn bệnh cho bản thân, tâm lý khuyên người khác dùng kháng sinh cũng rất phổ biến trong cộng đồng. Hành động này không chỉ “hại mình mà hại luôn cả người.” Thay vì đi khám bác sĩ, nhiều bà mẹ nghe “rỉ tai” từ các phụ huynh khác và cho con dùng kháng sinh tuỳ tiện, hoặc đi “kê toa” cho người khác dựa trên các triệu chứng giống mình.
Theo ThS. BS Trần Anh Tuấn, lạm dụng, tuỳ tiện dùng kháng sinh còn có thể khiến trẻ bị tác dụng phụ như tiêu chảy, rối loạn tiêu hóa,…, dị ứng, thậm chí độc tính trên gan, thận, xương khớp, máu… Không chỉ tốn kém cho người bệnh và cả hệ thống y tế, thói quen dùng kháng sinh này còn khiến tình trạng “lờn thuốc” (đề kháng kháng sinh) ở mức cao tại Việt Nam trầm trọng hơn.
