Chi công cho y tế chiếm 42,9% tổng chi y tế năm 2008. Số tiền này được sử dụng để cung cấp nước sạch, vệ sinh môi trường, thực hiện tiêm chủng mở rộng có độ bao phủ cao, giảm suy dinh dưỡng trẻ em, củng cố và mở rộng hệ thống y tế để nâng cao sự sẵn có và chất lượng của dịch vụ y tế…. Các nỗ lực này đều là những đóng góp vào các thành tích trong lĩnh vực y tế của Việt Nam.
