Về ý nghĩa khoa học:
Luận án góp phần củng cố lí thuyết về mối quan hệ hữu cơ giữa ngôn ngữ - văn hóa và tư duy. Ngoài ra, qua đặc điểm trường từ vựng tang ma và hôn nhân trong tiếng Việt và tiếng Anh, luận án cũng chỉ ra những nét đặc trưng văn hóa của ngôn ngữ và tư duy ở người Việt và người Anh; đồng thời, bổ sung một miếng ghép vào bức tranh nghiên cứu về tâm lí – ngôn ngữ học tộc người.
Về ý nghĩa thực tiễn:
Kết quả nghiên cứu của luận án là tài liệu tham khảo hữu ích cho việc học ngoại ngữ nói chung và công tác giảng dạy tiếng Việt và tiếng Anh như một ngoại ngữ nói riêng; đồng thời, góp phần hỗ trợ cho công tác biên soạn từ điển.
