Mọi hoạt động của cộng đồng xã hội và mỗi cá nhân con người đều được dẫn dắt và chi phối bởi nhận thức và quan niệm giá trị, những cái mà vì nó con người và xã hội có thể tồn tại, phát triển. Truyền thông, giáo dục giá trị chính là sự tương tác giữa các yếu tố, hiện tượng, quá trình được coi là có ý nghĩa đối với toàn bộ tiến trình phát triển của con người và xã hội. Trong những năm gần đây hệ giá trị ở Việt Nam đã có xu hướng thay đổi, một số giá trị cũ bị loại bỏ bên cạnh các giá trị mới xuất hiện ở cả hai mặt, tích cực và tiêu cực. Do đó, truyền thông giá trị và giáo dục giá trị trong bối cảnh hội nhập quốc tế nên bắt đầu từ những bài học về đạo lý, đạo đức, lối sống, nhân cách và được thực hiện đồng bộ, nhất quán trong nhà trường, gia đình và xã hội, đảm bảo sự phát triển bền vững hệ giá trị dân tộc.
