Mới đây các nhà khảo cổ học đã phát hiện ra một loài khủng long ăn thịt mới thuộc chi megaraptor. Loài khủng long này được tìm thấy ở vùng đất hóa thạch Patagonia, tại Nam Mỹ, là loài mới nhất được phát hiện thuộc chi megaraptor, dòng họ Murusraptor.
Loài khủng long khổng lồ này dài 6,5 mét, từng sinh sống tại Argentina thời Kỷ Phấn Trắng cách đây khoảng 80 triệu năm.
“Chúng ta biết rất ít về khủng long Murusraptor” – nhà khảo cổ học Rodolfo Coria, một thành viên thuộc nhóm nghiên cứu cho biết. Cùng với người đồng sự của mình là Giáo sư Philip Currie đến từ Đại học Alberta, ông Coria đã đưa ra một số mô tả về đặc điểm của loài khủng long mới này.
“Từ quá trình hình thành địa chất tương tự, chúng tôi đã thu thập được một số bộ phận hóa thạch của loài khủng long cổ dài khổng lồ (sauropods) cũng như gỗ thông hóa thạch xung quanh khu vực đó. Kết quả cho thấy, khu vực này là nơi sinh sống của rất nhiều loài khủng long, cá sấu, rùa và một số loài thú nhỏ. Chúng tôi nghĩ rằng Murusraptor thuộc loài ăn thịt và con mồi của chúng là những loài vật được kể ở trên” – ông Coria nói.
