Quảng Trị là địa phương có thổ nhưỡng, khí hậu thích hợp với cây hồ tiêu, cho sản phẩm có chất lượng cao, được người tiêu dùng trong và ngoài nước ưa chuộng. Để đáp ứng nhu cầu kinh doanh loại nông sản này, tỉnh Quảng Trị đã có nhiều biện pháp nhằm phát triển vùng nguyên liệu và xây dựng thương hiệu tiêu Quảng Trị.

Mới đây, UBND tỉnh giao Sở Nông nghiệp và Phát triển nông thôn xây dựng Đề án “Quy hoạch phát triển ngành nông nghiệp tỉnh Quảng Trị đến năm 2020”, với mục tiêu nằm trong chiến lược phát triển nông nghiệp cả nước và trong mối liên kết với các tỉnh vùng Bắc Trung Bộ và duyên hải miền Trung, đặc biệt là các nước trên tuyến Hành lang Kinh tế Đông – Tây; phù hợp với quy hoạch tổng thể phát triển kinh tế – xã hội tỉnh Quảng Trị đến năm 2020 và các quy hoạch khác có liên quan. Phát triển nông nghiệp theo hướng năng suất, chất lượng, hiệu quả và bền vững.
