Với lịch sử 60 năm hình thành, phát triển, các nông, lâm trường quốc doanh đã có những đóng góp tích cực vào sự nghiệp phát triển kinh tế - xã hội, giải quyết việc làm, cải thiện đời sống cho đồng bào dân tộc, ổn định chính trị, bảo đảm trật tự an toàn xã hội trên địa bàn khu vực nông thôn, miền núi. Nhiều nông, lâm trường quốc doanh đã trở thành nòng cốt phát triển một số ngành hàng nông, lâm sản quan trọng; tạo điều kiện để hình thành và phát triển vùng sản xuất nguyên liệu tập trung, tạo thuận lợi cho xây dựng cơ sở chế biến nông, lâm sản. Việc quản lý, sử dụng đất đai của các nông, lâm trường trong cả nước đã có bước chuyển biến tích cực, nhất là các đơn vị đã cổ phần hóa; tình trạng lấn chiếm, tranh chấp đất đai, cho thuê, cho mượn đất đai trái pháp luật đã giảm; hiệu quả sử dụng đất nâng lên, góp phần nâng cao đời sống người lao động trong các nông, lâm trường.
