Bảng cân đối kế toán được lập trên cơ sở số dư của các tài khoản từ loại 1 đến loại 4. Sau khi thực hiện các bút toán phân bổ và kết chuyển cuối kỳ, kế toán cộng sổ, tính số dư trên các tài khoản này (công việc này được thực hiện bởi phần mềm) rồi so sánh với các bảng tổng hợp chi tiết. Nếu khớp số, các số dư này sẽ được lấy làm căn cứ lập Bảng cân đối kế toán.
