Tỉnh Trà Vinh là tỉnh còn nhiều khó khăn, cơ sở hạ tầng yếu kém và là một trong 5 tỉnh thuộc khu vực Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long chịu sự tác động ảnh hưởng lớn nhất của biến đổi khí hậu gây ngập ủng, mặn xâm nhập sâu, đặc biệt là sạt lở liên tục tại các xã ven biển. Từ đó, rât khó thu hút đầu tư các dự án có quy mô khá lớn. Gần đây, có một số nhà đầu tư đến tìm kiếm môi trường đầu tư của tỉnh, trong đó có nhà đầu tư Hàn Quốc triển khai nhà máy điện gió với công suất 300MW, trong đó, triển khai giai đoạn 1 là 48MW với vốn đầu tư là 120 triệu USD và sẽ tiếp tục triển khai giai đoạn 2, giai đoạn 3 trong thời gian tới ngay khi hoàn thành giai đoạn 1. Đặc biệt hơn là Nhà mảy điện gió này khi triển khai đầu tư sẽ góp phần khắc phục tối đa việc sạt lở ở các xã ven biển.
